First Day of School: August 28, 2012

At the end of Monday's Head Start workday, Flora and I felt like we were ready.  We each had a few things to finish at home or in the morning before the kids arrived.  The labs were ready and we had changed the schedule to make more sense with the kids we had.  We changes the procedure we had for choosing labs to limit the number of students able to be in a lab at a time.  All the changes we made were ones Flora and I had both been thinking about.
Tuesday arrived and the children began coming.  We showed them where to sign in.  The children we able to find their names and attempt to write them on their piece of paper.  I labeled each student's paper with their name and date and hung them on the door under the label "Second Year Class".  This will be a great writing sample comparison from the first day of school to the last day of school.  We had eight students on Tuesday.  They are an amazing group of students.  There was no crying, no fighting, no yelling.  They walked in a line with their hands on their heads and bubbles in their mouths :).  They sat on their clouds (on our rug in the circle area) and were great listeners.  During Learning Labs they learned the new procedure and chose labs that had spaces available.  At 3pm Flora and I looked at the clock and told each other, "Wow, it's almost time to go home already!"  We had a great day.
